6/1/24 & 6/6/24 - 2-Session Intermediate Wheel Throwing Pottery Class with Beth Roy
Join Beth Roy on Saturday, June 1st from 10-1pm AND Thursday, June 6th from 6-9pm for this new Intermediate Wheel Thrown Pottery Class. Larger pieces of clay are used so you must know how to center the clay and open and pull up a wall efficiently.
In addition to honing your wheel throwing skills, you will learn how to trim the bottom of wheel thrown pieces and how to create and attach handles.
Important Information About This Class
You will have up to 3 pounds of clay to make 2 projects such as large bowls, pitchers and beer steins with handles, lidded jars, flowerpots, etc. Create unique rims, taller cylinders, enhanced bowls and aesthetic handles. The possibilities are endless!
To allow the most individualized attention possible, class size is limited to 5 students, 1 per wheel.
Beth will finish your pieces in one of 5 glaze color choices and will update you by phone or text when your pottery is ready for pickup.
This class was designed for intermediate level potters wishing to improve their wheel throwing skills. No one easily creates big beautiful bowls when they sit down at the wheel for the first time, second time, third time, etc... It's a process that takes time to master. The skills you learn in each class will build upon one another, and we encourage you to embrace this progress as a measure of your success.
Prepare for Class!
Dress comfortably and casually as pottery throwing tends to be a messy endeavor. Bring an apron if you'd like to wear one but the clay washes out of clothes beautifully!
Remove bracelets and rings, tie up long hair and trim your fingernails before class. While short nails aren't required, we find that it's a bit easier to throw pottery with them.
Each wheel throwing class will last for 3 hours. This includes 2 1/2 hours of instruction and a 1/2 hour for cleanup. As potters in a community studio, we strive to leave our work spaces better than we found them.
But I Want More!
Two of the most common things that we hear at the end of a wheel throwing class are, "I was just getting the hang of it!" and "I don't want to stop throwing!", and we love this enthusiasm!
We have several solutions for this:
- Enroll in another session with Beth to build on your skills.
- Enroll in Beth's Novice Class where she takes you through the process from throwing to drying to glaze and firing. To maximize your chances for success, we recommend that you previously attended at least two beginner/intermediate classes.
- Apply for a Pottery Membership at ARTworks Vass. Click here to learn more.
Important Information:
- Beginners are welcome.
- Children age 14 and older may attend class independently.
