10/2/23 Introduction to Oil Painting with Beth Roy
New to oil painting or frustrated with oil paints? There's no better way to learn than from an accomplished expert like Beth Roy! Join Beth for an Introduction to Oil Painting Class on Monday, Oct. 2nd from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.
The primary focus during this class is on the fundamentals of painting. The basics of composition, values, color and edges are also covered plus many other helpful tips. In this class, you will explore, learn from mistakes and discover new techniques. Consider it a bonus if you leave with a finished painting!
You are welcome to bring a simple photo reference or choose one of Beth's. All supplies are included.
About Beth Roy
Growing up in rural Michigan, artist Beth Roy acquired the foundation that allows her paintings to come to life today. She began riding horses at an early age and her life-long relationship with them has allowed her to translate them beautifully in her work. Body language is also a critical component of Beth's compositions and using the subtlest of nuances, she strives to capture the personality of animals and people in her work.
Professionally, Beth studied art at Austin Peay State College, and Christopher Newport College. She has won several regional awards and her work is currently represented in Beaufort, Southern Pines, and Vass, North Carolina.
Beth explains her creative process in this way, “I initially seek good composition. I zero in on the lights and darks, while keeping in mind colorful shadows or mid-values. All of my paintings start with a fairly dry ground color, not a white canvas, and then blocks of color are added. Very thin paint is applied first and only at the end are details and thicker paints added.” Beth considers her work to be highly representational and generally realistic.

- Registration allows for 1 person per class. Only those who have registered may participate.
- Aprons are not provided. You may bring your own if you wish.
- Class starts promptly, so be sure to arrive on time.
