April 27, 2025 - ReMe Retreat on Ocracoke Island!
Welcome to our ReMe Retreat on Ocracoke Island in 2025!
2025 marks our 13th Annual ReMe Retreat on Ocracoke Island. Because space is so limited, it's our policy to give first dibs for reservations each year to the guests who were with us in the previous year. Once they've had an opportunity to reserve, any space that remains will be offered to those on our waiting list.
If you were a guest of ReMe in 2024, please proceed with your reservation using this listing.
If you were not a guest of ReMe in 2024, and if you're already on our waiting list, please be patient. We're all women of a certain age, and inevitably life happens. When it does, space will become available.
If you're not on our waiting list yet, and if you'd like to be added to it, please email [email protected] with your request. Please be sure to provide your cell number, the number of spaces that you'd like to reserve, and the names of the guests who would like to attend with you.
As our waiting list continues to grow, and if we have the capacity to do so in our schedule, we will consider adding an additional ReMe Retreat on Ocracoke in the future.

ReMe Retreats offer are part vacation with your besties, part learning experience, and part immersion into the culture of our beloved Ocracoke Island.
ReMe is not an organized instructional retreat where every minute is scheduled and planned. Instead it's more of an Open Studio with friends, with optional add-on workshops and activities available to those who are interested. The workshops that we'll be offering in 2025 are detailed below.
Whether you want to sleep all day, or adventure or learn from day until night, we encourage you to make the selections that are best for you.
Our beloved Soundfront Inn was not available this year, so our home for ReMe will be shifting. Our new home is on the waterfront. It's big and beautiful and historic, and it's going to be amazing! The pictures in this listing are from our previous years on Ocracoke.
After you read through all of this, if you have any questions, please email Jean directly at [email protected], or text her at 910-528-1109.

Optional Workshop Details Follow:
Please note that each of these workshops will include all supplies needed to finish your projects, and Melissa's classes will also include the printing of several of your photos before ReMe so that they'll be ready for you when class begins.
OPTION I - Design and Create with Melissa Rian
Melissa has generously offered to teach 3 different classes during our time together at ReMe. Before we ask you to register for any of them, we're going to take a poll to gauge interest about each. Then, based on your overall interest, we'll decide how to proceed and invoice you for any that you'd like to attend. If there's enough interest, Melissa has agreed to teach all three. (Each of these projects would also provide a great way to use the Eco Dyed Papers that you made with her last year!)
Design and Create Your Own Handmade Flag Book
In this workshop you will create a book that will allow you to display your photos in an attractive manner. This book binding, commonly called a Flag Book, is easy to create even for begnners! Each student will create a book that may be displayed 3-D or flat, using images, collages, or postcards. This workshop will last for approximately 3 hours, and it will be priced at $49.
Design and Create Your Own Handmade Found Object Book
In this class students will create a book out of random treasures that usually get tossed away. (Beer coozies, paper bags, and product packaging are all examples of this.) You'll walk away with a book made from found and sentimental materials and every book will be as unique as its maker. (Last year, Melissa made a book on the Island that was created with sock packaging that she purchased at Books to be Red, a Welcome to Ocracoke Flyer, bags from her Island purchases, and seashells.). This workshop will last for approximately 3 hours, and it will be priced at $39.
Encaustics for Beginners
In this class you'll get an introduction to the centuries old wax painting medium, Encaustics. We will review the process and create several small paintings with hot wax. By the end of the class, you will have a good understanding of the medium, and you'll also have the confidence to continue creating in it. This workshop will last approximately 6 hours, and it may be broken into one or two sessions based on our timing and preferences on Ocracoke. It will be priced at $199, and this includes all supplies used during class and use of Melissa's tools and supplies for the remainder of the week to continue creating.
Photos of each of these projects are shown here, with a photo of a single Eco Dyed Print separating the projects.
Each of these projects provides a delightful way to capture the memories that we make on Ocracoke! Throughout the week during Open Studios, guests may continue to use Melissa's tools to add details to their projects, or they may opt to purchase additional supplies from her to create extra projects.
Whichever classes you choose, Melissa will reach out to each of you individually in the next month to discuss the types of sentimental materials that you can bring to incorporate into your projects, and she'll also offer to print several photos for you at home to save class time on the Island.
OPTION II - Design and Create Two Small Resin Wooden Cutting Boards with Laura Scott
Laura will lead you each step of the way as she demonstrates adding color and depth by combining epoxy resin with a variety of colors of mica powders from her extensive collection. She'll also share her popular Ocean Waves Technique, and the manner in which she uses a heat gun and other tools to move resin into a design that's somehow predictable and unpredictable at the same time. This workshop was designed with beginners in mind, and guests of all levels of experience will be thrilled with their results!
The all-inclusive price of this class includes an assortment of paint colors, Mica Powder, Epoxy Resin, and a two different sizes of Wooden Cutting Boards. (Photos of this project will be added to this listing soon.)
Throughout the week during Open Studios, guests may continue to use Laura's tools to add extra details to their projects, or they may opt to purchase additional supplies from her to create extra projects.
The last two photos in this listing show two of Laura's large Ocean Wave Resin Masterpieces. This is one of the techniques that she'll cover in class, and you'll have options to create other designs in a huge variety of colors too.
Melissa and Laura will be present throughout ReMe ReMix after their classes to consult or critique your work-in-process upon request,
Please remember that these class sessions are completely optional, and there's no pressure to register for either of them.
Please Note: If you're a returning guest of ReMe on Ocracoke, and if you'd like to break your retreat cost into multiple payments, we'll be happy to accommodate you. Before registering here, please text Jean directly with a description of how you'd like to divide your payments.
We hope to see you at ReMe on Ocracoke in 2025 and beyond! If you have any questions in the meantime, please contact Jean Skipper at [email protected] or at 910-528-1109.
