7/11 & 7/18 - Christmas in July - 2 Class Series: Fused Glass and Long Leaf Pine Needle Ornament / Sun Catcher with Kathy Downs & Karen Habicht at ARTworks Vass
When Kathy Downs and Karen Habicht team up, you never know what kind of creative magic might happen! Join them for this special collaboration when you'll combine the colorful sparkle of fused glass with the rustic charm of longleaf pine needles to create a one-of-a-kind holiday ornament or sun catcher.
Class 1: Fused Glass Design | Saturday, July 11 | 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Begin by designing your 3-inch fused glass centerpiece that will become the focal point of your finished ornament. You will have access to a huge assortment of colorful 96 COE glass materials, including pebbles, dots, stringers, noodles, frit, lace, murrini, and pre-made glass flowers.
Design your own or lean into ideas and inspiration by instructor Kathy Downs. During this class, you'll learn how to safely prepare, arrange, and assemble your glass design before it is kiln-fired.
Class 2: Pine Needle Framing | Saturday, July 18 | 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
You'll learn the basics of pine needle basketry as you create a decorative frame around your finished glass centerpiece. Using longleaf pine needles and waxed thread, you'll learn how to prepare the needles, start your project, and use a basic stitch to attach and weave the pine needles around your glass base.
By the end of the series, you'll have a stunning holiday-themed ornament or sun catcher that beautifully blends glass art and traditional pine needle basketry techniques.
Finished project size will vary slightly but will be approximately 6–8 inches in diameter.
This class is perfect for beginners, but those with experience are welcome to join and expand their skills. All tools and materials are provided for use during the session, though feel free to bring any favorite tools of your own.
Class size is limited, so early registration is recommended.

- Children age 14 and older may attend class independently.
- Children under age 14 may join this class if a responsible adult also registers to attend and participate with them.
- Registration allows for one Guest per class project.
- Only Registered Guests may attend class.
- Registrations are non-refundable and cannot be rescheduled.
- Class starts promptly as scheduled.
- Dress to mess or bring an apron.
- At ARTworks Vass, you're always welcome to bring your own Nibbles and Sips to class.
