Handmade Pottery, Cultured Pearl and Solid Copper Necklace by Jean Skipper
From an ordinary day to a special night on the town, this statement pendant will be perfect for any occasion!
The one-of-a-kind North Carolina Pottery Focal was created by Beth Roy, and the necklace was Handcrafted by Jean Skipper, both of Vass, North Carolina. The focal piece measures approximately 2 inches in width, it's hung from a 24 inch solid ball chain that may easily be adjusted to the length of your choice.
Jean’s jewelry is created from solid copper, brass, sterling silver, gemstones, cultured pearls, Swarovski Crystals, vintage treasures, found objects, and other odds and ends. The textures, sayings, and sentiments on each piece are stamped or etched by hand. Where some see the discarded, Jean sees possibilities and history. She loves to repurpose things, and this gives her jewelry a whimsical and sentimental feeling.
The industrial nature of Jean’s work was most influenced by her Father and Grandfather. Her Dad was a steelworker in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, and he raised her with an appreciation for metals and tools of all kinds. Her grandfather was an avid collector of the discarded, long before it was cool to be one, and he passed along the thrill of the hunt to her.
Not to be outdone, Jean’s Mother, Grandmothers, Aunts, and Uncles all taught Jean the value of family and connection. She credits them with teaching her about the importance of Community, and insists that most of what she’s learned about coordinating retreats, classes, and special events at ARTworks Vass is a direct result of their family gatherings.
A little bit of Jean’s love of Family, Art, and Community go into everything that she does/
