(As a reminder, this event was held in November 2023, and our next Glass In Vass Weekend will be held sometime in 2024.)
Visual Arts and Performing Arts meet during Glass in Vass, and we're beyond excited to share it with you!
There will be Glass Blowing, Lampwork Glass Bead Making in a Flame, Stained Glass, Fused Glass and more. You'll be able to make, watch, visit, and shop the weekend away as we celebrate the limitless ways that our Artists work in this medium.
Highlights of Glass in Vass follow:
Live Glass Blowing - Wayne Manning, of Vass, NC, and Lee Kind, of Washington, D.C., will be blowing glass in front of the gallery. Guests will be able to blow Glass Ornaments with their help, and they'll be demonstrating more advanced Glass Blowing Techniques throughout the weekend. Glass Blowing Sessions are scheduled on Friday from 12:00 - 6:00, on Saturday from 10:00 - 4:00, and on Sunday from 11:00 - 3:00.
Live Lampwork Glass Bead Making - Debbie Keen, of Pinehurst, NC, will be at her torches and making beads throughout the weekend. Guests will be able to join her to create their own beads too! Debbie will be onsite and available on Friday from 10:00 - 6:00, and on Saturday from 10:00 - 4:00.
Live Stained Glass Making - Diane Flanegan, of Pinehurst, NC, will be demonstrating her craft throughout the weekend, and she'll also be teaching her wildly popular Stained-Glass Holiday Ornament-Making class on Saturday from 1:00 until 4:00. In this workshop, guests can expect to leave with 2 finished Holiday Stained Glass Ornaments in the designs of their choice.
Fused Glass - We'll be featuring the Fused Glass Art of Liz Murray, Sue Hubbard, and Wayne Manning. You'll be able to view several fused glass projects in process, and our Artists will be available throughout the weekend to discuss their craft and their upcoming classes with you.
Spin Art - We're not talking about the tiny plastic Spin Art Kit that you had as a kid! Courtesy of Diane and Rich Flanegan, we'll be ready with the grown-up artistic version of our childhood favorite. Spin Art will be available on a drop-in basis on Friday between 3:00 and 4:00, on Saturday, between 10:00 and 11:00, and on Sunday between 12:00 and 1:00. What does Spin Art have to do with glass?!? We don't know, but it's bright, colorful, and fun, and that's good enough for us!
Paint Your Own Pottery - Drop-in Pottery Painting will be available, and all projects will be discounted by 10% during Glass in Vass! You can begin the project of your choice on Friday between 10:00 and 5:00, on Saturday between 10:00 and 4:00, and on Sunday between 11:00 and 2:00. (Yes! At this moment we still have Lighted Jack-o-Lanterns and Lighted Christmas Trees available. Call us at 910-245-4129 if you'd like to claim one as your own.)
Willabee - In addition to the sustainable products and practices that owner, Mary Garrison, is passionate about, she's also the most amazing baker. (If you haven't had a taste of the treats that she makes, you're missing out on the best bakery in Moore County!) Mary will be ready for Glass in Vass with a pastry case full of the most delectable seasonal baked goods, and also Ginger Beer and Kombucha on tap. (She whispered the words, "Caramel Apple" to us last week, and our imaginations have been running wild ever since!)
Crossroad Coffee - In addition to their tasty breakfast, lunch, dinner, and drink menus, Crossroads will be open on Friday and Saturday, and they'll be featuring a Glass in Vass Drink Special of Blueberry Lavender Sparkling Lemonade. If you haven't tried this magic elixir yet, you're in for a treat! It's a fan-favorite at ARTworks Vass, and it's as pretty to look at as it is delicious.
Up In Smoke BBQ - Jeremy Powers of award-winning Up In Smoke BBQ will be bringing the smokey goodness as he joins us on Sunday between 11:00 and 3:00. His menu that day will feature Pulled Pork Plates, Chicken Leg Quarter Plates, and Loaded BBQ Bowls with Pulled Pork, Baked Beans, Slaw, and Corn Chips. Get out of the kitchen and enjoy a Sunday with your Friends and Family at ARTworks Vass!
A Permanent Hot Glass Studio at ARTworks Vass - "Glass in Vass", the event and the master plan, has been brewing in our hearts for years. As a part of this inaugural event, we're sharing even bigger news for the first time ever. ARTworks Glass is becoming a reality with the planned addition of a Hot Glass Studio that we're building behind the gallery and beside our Kiln House! Proceeds from Glass in Vass on 11/10, 11/11, and 11/12 will be used to financially support this effort, and if all goes according to plan, we'll be blowing glass on a regular basis within one year.
Wayne Manning... Glass Artist, Resident of Vass, and Art Teacher at Union Pines High School... will maintain his studio in this new space, and he'll also run our programming. He's eager for our studio to become an integral part of ARTworks Vass and the Community at large.
