June 2024 - Tim See's Wheel Throwing and Surface Decorating Pottery Workshops at ARTworks Vass!
We're beyond excited to announce that Tim See will be joining us again this year for Wheel Throwing and Surface Decorating Pottery! This description includes all of the basics. We're hopeful that you'll find everything that you need to know and more here. If you have any questions, please contact us anytime at [email protected] or 910-245-4129.
2 Day Wheel Throwing Boot Camps on Monday, June 24th, and Tuesday, June 25th AND/OR Friday, June 28th, and Saturday, June 29th
Tim See works with learners at every level, and whether you’re a beginner, intermediate or advanced Potter, you’ll be welcome in his 2 Day Wheel Throwing Workshop at ARTworks Vass.
At the beginning of this Workshop, Tim will assess the priorities of those in attendance, and they’ll become the focus of our time together. You can expect to throw pots of many types, including tumblers, mugs, bowls, plates & platters, vases, lidded vessels, or teapots. He’ll demonstrate, and then with his guidance and feedback, you’ll have time to try his techniques on the wheel.
Have a special request? Please add it to the comments section when you register, or email us at [email protected].
2 Day Surface Decorating Demonstration on Wednesday, June 26th, and Thursday, June 27th
Surface Decorating is what takes a pot from good to great! 2 days of focus with Tim will provide you with a very broad overview that will fill your toolbox and stimulate your creativity for weeks, months, and even years to come!
To maximize the number of techniques that Tim shares with Guests, we'll be approaching this workshop in a different way this year. Tim will be demonstrating as much as humanly possible during our 2 days together, and Guests will not be decorating personally.
In this workshop, Tim will orient students to the major decision points at which decoration can be considered: wet clay, shaping, leather hard, bone dry, bisqued, or glazed. He’ll then demonstrate techniques which can be used at each of those stages. Tim has at least 30 techniques that he can demonstrate during this 2 Day workshop, and we’re looking forward to learning about as many of them as time will allow!
What can I expect from each Workshop?
Our Wheel Throwing Workshops will be process based, and not project driven. We’ll be making and wrecking a lot of clay. Guests will reclaim clay communally, and and learn about the process as we work together during breaks, and before and after class.
Generally at Tim's workshops, guests leave with no finished work. By popular demand this year at ARTworks Vass, you'll have the option of keeping one single piece. You may either take it home as greenware, or leave it to be bisque fired, glazed, glaze fired, and shipped. Full details about this will be available during your workshop.
You can expect to leave your Surface Decorating Workshop with a handout outlining the timing parameters and descriptions of various techniques. At the end of each day, you'll also be welcome to take photos of Tim's class projects.
Additionally, a single set of videos will be filmed during workshops, and they'll be available for reference in our Private Facebook Group for registered guests.
